Due to some circumstances at work the option for me to stay home has opened up. But if I stay home we couldn't pay for the littles to attend their current school. God began to reveal his plan to us, guiding us towards home schooling. After many discussions and lots of prayer, we decided that home schooling is best for our family.
We are all excited! But the excitement was not automatic when we proposed this idea to the littles. Our youngest little had one question, "Can I do my school work in my pj's?" After a prompt yes, if we are home you can, she said awesome lets do it. (she has never looked back or been sad) Our oldest little was not sold on the idea at first. She wasn't ready to give up seeing people/friends everyday. She didn't want to be trapped at home 24/7 or not have interaction with other people. After much research on co-ops and lots of reassuring her that we would be around people/kids almost everyday she accepted the idea a little better. She still has moments of questions about how it will all work.
In the state of TN you are required to home school under an umbrella (an organization that keeps records that your child did indeed do school work for the year and passed certain test). We are going to be home schooling under the TKA umbrella. TKA is where the littles currently attend so come fall we will switch to their home school side. This will be a good transition for them as they will still be able to attend chapel on Fridays, attend field trips with their peers, participate in Science camp and field day. So they will see some of their friends on a regular basis. (which for my oldest little is making the transition easier) We will also be very involved in a co-op. We have plans for both of the littles to take at least one class at the co-op each week. The oldest little will take Algebra II twice a week (this is a class that no matter how much I read and study I just can not teach her). The youngest little we haven't decided on yet but I am sure she will enjoy anything hands on.
So this summer I will be reading all kinds of curriculum and planning our school year. It will be a lot of work in the beginning and a lot of changes as we find what works or doesn't work for our little family. But the best thing is....we will be doing it together!
